Although
HazMAP is best implemented as a single system, it is sometimes
better understood when viewed as two components:
1. The
"Portal"
- a customized website where businesses can login to complete
and submit their hazardous materials business plans. Agencies
can also review and approve the business plans through the
portal.
2. The
"Map
Interface" - HazMAP is loaded onto computers (MDC/CAD)
located in emergency response vehicles and command centers.
The map interface interprets data contained in the portal
and visually displays it for emergency responders. The map
interface displays key features
such as fire hydrants, storm drains, sewer lines, rivers,
etc. It also gives responders access to chemical information
and the abilities to perform chemical plume/WMD modeling and
calculate protective action distances. |
