Who
buys HazMAP?
HazMAP is usually purchased by Fire Departments, CUPAs, and PAs.
It can be purchased by any agency responsible for the collection
of Hazardous Materials Business Plans or any response agency.
What
Agencies are currently using HazMAP?
A full-scale version of HazMAP is being used by
Santa Ana Fire Department. Please contact Mike
Buren, Hazardous Materials Specialist for further information
at (714) 647-5752.
How
much does HazMAP cost and how do agencies pay for it?
Cost
is based the size of the agency's jurisdiction and the number of
hazardous materials-containing facilities (regulated businesses).
Payment comes in the form of an "initial setup fee" as
well as a smaller "annual maintenance fee."
Agencies pay for it from their general fund, obtain grants, or pass
the cost down to the regulated businesses. In California, the Governor's
Office of Emergency Services (OES) makes grant money available for
HazMAP through their Hazardous
Materials Emergency Preparedness Grant (HMEP). Tait will assist
your agency in obtaining funding. Please contact
us for more information.
What
happens if the internet goes down? Will HazMAP still work?
Yes. HazMAP is configured on laptops in emergency response vehicles.
Every 24 hours a synchrony routine updates the laptop with the latest
information. If the internet goes down during a response, the laptop
will refer back to its most recent daily update.
Can
other on-line forms be created besides the hazardous materials business
plan forms?
Yes, we can create and customize on-line forms for any of the standard
CUPA forms, or any forms for that matter. If there's information
that you would like to collect from the public via the web, we can
help. What's really great is that the forms will print out and look
just like your original paper forms.
How
long will it take to implement HazMAP at our agency?
If your agency is currently receiving business plans in paper format,
it will take approximately 1 year to convert to e-filing and begin
using HazMAP.
What
"Layers" come standard with HazMAP?
Base layers include fire hydrants, fire management zones, fire stations,
hospitals, manholes, regulated businesses, rivers, city borders,
sewer lines, storm drains & lines, and rail lines. Other optional
layers can be created for an additional cost.
Can
we add additional layers if we already have them in GIS?
Yes, our team of experts can incorporate additional layers.
Can
HazMAP run on our existing Mobile Data Computers (MDCs)?
Yes.
Can
information from HazMAP be transmitted through our Computer-Aided
Dispatch (CAD) System?
Yes.
Does
TAIT prepare Hazardous Materials Area Plans?
Yes. Tait also provides services in environmental consulting, tank
design, engineering, entitlements, and surveying. |
